4 Non Awkward Networking Tips for Beginners

By Agent Image / Updated July 14, 2016 / Published January 07, 2014 / 4 min read

Beginners usually have a hard time when it comes to doing a number of things regardless of what industry they find themselves in. There’s always that rookie mistake that we’ve all encountered and felt back when we were still new in the company that we work for. There was an observation that was popular once stating that if beginners stopped being so self-conscious and paid more attention to what they were doing or what they were being told to do, it could have minimized errors. This rings true for businesses and industries such as real estate marketing where every movement and action needs to be precise and calculated. This is no place for shyness or the jitters in this industry which means you need to move out of that awkward phase quickly.
To help ease the transition from shy and bashful, to the future best networking marketer for the firm, we are providing a couple of useful tips to help complete the transformation.
1. Find Common Ground to Talk About
If you feel awkward with your potential client, then maybe you can try to do a bit of research on your prospect. Find out what they want and try to use that as you begin your pitch. Try this strategy even when you’re not trying to sell to someone, but instead trying to network with their circle of potential buyers and customers.
2. Relax
Like what was mentioned earlier in this article, people tend to make more mistakes when they are too conscious about what they are doing. Play it cool, relax and thoroughly enjoy the conversation you are having with the person. Relax your mind and don’t worry too much about the what-ifs. Relaxing will not just help you to avoid making blunders, it’ll also help your absorption tenfold. When you’re body and mind are relaxed you will be able to retain information better than when you’re nervous and tense. Remember to breathe deeply a few times and give yourself a positive mental mantra to supply you with confidence.
3. Dress to Impress
In networking, you are building impressive bridges. Think “Golden State Bridge” impressive. You have to act and look the part. Just like your website, you need to establish a first impression to your potential buyers and sellers to show that you are respectable and mean business. Invest in a few key business wardrobe pieces to mix and match when you have networking events or meeting with leads.
4. Be a Genuine Friend
If all else fails, be yourself. Show your clients, prospects and targeted network that you are a real person that genuinely cares about finding someone their perfect dream property. Showing your true heart and concerns can open windows of opportunity to others that you are a high value professional with credibility. This last tip is most probably the most important.
So take these network tips and get out there in networking groups, meet-ups and Facebook groups to increase your leads.
