Building Blog Content From Online Inspiration

By Agent Image / Updated July 14, 2016 / Published August 19, 2014 / 4 min read

We have established in the past that blogs can be a big help in real estate marketing especially in cases where you want to build a strong brand or name recall. Now the main question is where can you get ideas and inspiration for your website’s blog content. One great place to harvest content is from your competitor.

Yes, you read that right! A great place to scour for inspiration is in your competitor’s own backyard. But it’s not like you are stealing content from them. Copying or plagiarizing competitor’s content is frowned upon by any industry especially in the real estate industry. Plagiarism occurs when you claim content as your own despite the said content being a word-for-word facsimile. This is bad practice and should not be condoned.

However, it’s perfectly normal to use an existing article and add in your own spin. That is something that’s being done in other industries, real estate and marketing included. Any business would be flattered if they find that their competition is “taking a leaf from their notebook” or trying to cash in on the success. Bloglines.com’s very own, Mark Fletcher, once said, “Your idea isn’t new. Pick an idea; at least 50 other people have thought of it. Get over your stunning brilliance and realize that execution matters more.” That’s what drives companies to outdo each other. It breathes life to the market. Look at the rivalry between Apple’s iPhone and Samsung’s Galaxy phones. It’s fact that Samsung took some of the better qualities of the iPhone and incorporated it to their S-Series phones. If that didn’t happen then we would have all been stuck on the same phones with no real market growth.

This also happens a lot in music. Classic songs like “Let it Be” and “No Woman No Cry” all share the same basic chords. Yet it’s been modified to such an extent that it became its own thing. That’s the idea. Don’t be afraid to try out and experiment on different topics. Go and add in some little touches here and there and make it as personal as it can be. While you’re at it, you might want to look into changing the way your website looks. This will help in sealing the deal for property sales or building rapport with potential clients.
