Stepping Up with Google Analytics

By Agent Image / Updated February 09, 2026 / Published April 01, 2014 / 3 min read

Google Analytics has been a very important data resource for individuals and business entities working on their Internet Marketing strategies. It can be said that analytics reports are what fuels individuals involved in internet marketing, including those that work on real estate marketing, because it lets them know if they are on the right track or not. If they are off track, then the data presented by Google Analytics can help them correct what’s being done wrong. This article will help you to understand the different terms, as well as how Google Analytics works.

Some of the common terms that people bring up whenever there’s a conversation pertaining to Google Analytics include:

    1. Impressions refer to the number of appearances that any of the URLs from your website has appeared on a search. Most people think that impressions are synonymous to a visit; it’s not. A good analogy here is the number of people who encounter an ice cream parlor. Impressions are the people who see or walk past the ice cream parlor.

    1. Visits or clicks on the other hand refer to actual users who went to your website or have clicked on your link. This could be used interchangeably, but the more proper term to use is “click”.

    1. The CTR that you will see in any Analytics report is the ‘Click Through Rate’. This is usually derived from the formula Clicks/Impressions * 100. The Click Through Rate is important in letting you know whether your links are noticeable, if your landing pages are working well, or if you need to make tweaks to your marketing and blog posts.

  1. The Average Position will instantly tell you where your website stands within allGoogle Search pages; that however depend on a specific keyword.
